subject: 2010 College Football Season Begin Thursday Night [print this page] The 2010 College football season begins this Thursday evening with a handful of games. Some top notch teams will take the field begin the long road to a national championship. Let's take a look at some of this Thursday's match ups.
SouthernMississippi travels to Columbia, South Carolina to face the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina is a two touchdown favorite as they are agood home team having won 6 of their last 8 games at home.
The Thundering Herd of Marshall heads into Columbus, Ohio to face the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes are loaded with talent as usual andagainare the favorite to win the Big 10 and have a great look at a national championship. If you like betting on the under in football games this one is for you. Marshall has gone under the total 9 of their last 11 games while Ohio State has gone under the total 8 of the last 12 games. The line on the under is 47 and a half.
Northern Illinois will be at Iowa State. The Huskies of Northern Illinois do not play well on the road while Iowa State is an improved team from last season.
The Pittsburgh Panthers travel to Salt Lake City to play the Utah Utes. These teams last faced each other on New Years Day in 2005 at the Fiesta Bowl where Utah prevailed 35-7 and captured a perfect season. This match up is very even but I do worry about Pittsburgh playing away far from the familiarity of the Eastern United States. They rarely make a trip this far west and when they do it does not go well for them.
Then we have a game I am looking very forward to as the University of Southern California travels to Hawaii. Now the USC Trojans have been in the news a lot lately and usually is not for good things. Many people have lowered their expectations on this club due to all the turmoil and coaching changes but they are still loaded with talent that is waiting to prove itself. QB Matt Barkley now hasa full year under his belt and I think will rise and perform greatly throughout the season. Hawaii alwaysscores many points at home so I like this one to be a real shootout.
There are 2 other games on the betting board. Minnesota will play at Middle Tennessee State and Florida Atlantic will be at Alabama-Birmingham. In the Minnesota / Middle Tennessee game watch as Minnesota is start a very young andinexperienceddefense. They lost 9 starters from last year's squad and have much to prove. This is a big physical team that shall pound away on Middle Tennessee.
On Friday night the Arizona Wildcats will be in Ohio to face the Toledo Rockets. The Wildcats are a 16 point favorite but never count out Toledo as they have pulled off a fair share of upsets. Toledo is veryfamiliarplaying against prime time programs. Last year they faced Ohio State, Purdue and Colorado. They gave the Buffaloes of Colorado a real beating. Arizona needs to be focused to win this game, a loss here would really put Arizona coach Mike Stoops in some hot water. Arizona really needs to look good here and ease some of the pressure off the team but they are not a very good road team.
