In this article I am going to discuss 5 keys to testing your squeeze pages (aka your data capture or lead capture page). Many people get that they need to test, but they don't know exactly how (or in what order) to go about doing it. So here is a guide to help you make this MLM key to success work for you.
1. Test Your Headline: When going about testing your squeeze page, the first part of the page you should test is your headline. Why the headline first? Well testing your headlines alone is one of the big MLM keys to success. Headlines alone can make or break the success of a squeeze page. Changing a headline can mean the difference between a conversion rate of 12% and a conversion rate of 24% with the same kind of traffic. With that said, when you test your headline, you want to not only test the style or verbiage of your headline (e.g., using a "how to" headline versus a "who else wants to" headline), but also the font color and size of your headline.
2. Test Look & Layout: After your headline, the next thing you want to test is the look and layout of the squeeze page itself. When I say this, I am not necessarily talking about changing your copy, but more about testing where things are placed on the page and their appearance. This would include everything from where your opt-in box is located, how big it is, where you have pictures on the page and other such things.
3. Test Your Giveaway: This one is important and is another one of the big MLM keys to success (even among this bigger topic of testing your squeeze page). You ALWAYS want to test your giveaway (your free report or whatever you give to people who opt in via your squeeze page). When I say this, I do not mean the content and substance of the item itself. I mean the name or title of the giveaway. It is a variation of testing a headline. Remember, that what you say is not nearly as important as HOW you say it.
4. Test Your Bullet Points: Do you have bullet points on your squeeze page about what you cover in your giveaway? If so, then these are your next item to test on your squeeze page. Or, if you have a video squeeze page, create five different short videos to test on that page. The reason that testing is one of the big MLM keys to success is that until you do it, you don't know which one little tweak or change could mean a big difference in your conversion and opt in rates.
5. Test Your Font: The final item for you to test on your squeeze page is the appearance of different aspects of your page. You want to test the font style and the font color. You also want to test the font separately for the headline (see #1 above) versus the copy on the page. You want to test the appearance of your submit button.
Here are two BIG overall piece of advice for doing all of this testing that will make these MLM keys to success work. First, never test more than one thing at a time, e.g., don't change your headline and the name of your giveaway at the same time.
Why? You will not know to which one any change in conversion etc is attributable. Using my example, if you changed both of those things and your opt-in rate goes up by 1.5%, was it because of the change to your headline or the change in the name of the giveaway? You'll never know....which sort of defeats the purpose of testing.
Second hint to make these MLM keys to success work is to wait until you have at least 100 clicks after testing each item before you draw any conclusions about what effect the change had. In other words, don't change your headline, wait one hour and determine that headline is better -- all because you had a better opt-in rate for the next ten people who clicked on your page. You need a big enough sample in order for test results to be usable.
