One of the great things about Brazilian Jiu jitsu and Submission Wrestling is that there are organizations like IBJJF that put on high level events that are open for everyone to participate in. The 2010 IBJJF No GI Pan Am's in New York this year will be no different. Schools and competitors from all over the world will participate in this great event. It is open to anyone willing to participate, so if you decided to go, there are a few things you need to know in terms of the jiu jitsu clothing uniform requirements.

The IBJJF has made it mandatory to wear specific jiu jitsu clothing, including rashguards and shorts so that it is easy to see who is grappling and what division they are in. The rashguards must either all black or all white and the sleeves must be the colour of your belt level. So if you are in the blue belt division, you would need to wear blue sleeves; if you are in purple belt, you would need to wear purple sleeves; if you are a black belt, you would need to wear black sleeves.

The jiu jitsu clothing uniform requirements for shorts are much simpler. The fabric must be all black and the trim can be any colour. This allows you to choose from more of a variety of brands and styles so you can find the one you really like. You can also put your team logo or a patch on the front of the leg of the shorts so you can promote the school you are representing.

The price of this uniform can cost $100, give or take, depending on the quality and brand name of the jiu jitsu clothing. You can find these shorts and rashguards online or you can purchase them at the actual event. However, if you purchase it at the event, they usually cost a little more, and you run the risk of the vendors not having your specific size or rashguard color. Buying them beforehand may save you some money, and you'll go to the tournament knowing you already have everything you need.
