subject: Your Web Site Traffic and the Google Caffeine Update [print this page]

Is your web site traffic suffering? Has you page rank dropped? Do you need to increase traffic to your website? If so then you'll be in the same position as many web site owners who have fallen victim to Google's latest LSI algorithm update. Perhaps aptly named the caffeine update it could probably just as easily be labelled Google's second slap.

This latest algorithm takes the focus away from backlinks and places it squarely on your web site activity though interactivity maybe a better description. Basically it looks at your web site traffic first and ranks you according to the level of visitor interaction.

The most likely reason for Google to do this would be to combat the backlinking strategies that many web site owners have adopted. Many of the savvy marketers and web site owners quickly realised that the last LSI algorithm (the original Google slap) shifted its focus from content to backlinks. They simply changed their promotion strategies accordingly. But now that's not enough.

Both content and backlinks are still vitally important to your web site and its longevity just as they always have been. But now this third addition into Google's LSI mix means that alone they're not enough to generate your web site traffic or improve your search engine ranking on any worthwhile or definitive scale.

Fortunately because it's a new innovation it also comes with opportunity. There are naturally some well established well designed web sites that none of this affects. That also means that there are keywords and phrases the same web sites dominate with regard to search engine rankings and traffic. But there are many more web sites that have fallen foul because the promotion strategies they've been using are no longer as relevant.

That's where anyone with even the most basic knowledge and know how about how to promote a web site now can take advantage. Because this is brand new territory for almost everyone it's not really even that difficult to generate your web site traffic and improve search engine ranking.

A number of the same rules still apply like high traffic low competition keywords and high quality original content. A lot of web sites already have that and are only missing the third all important element. Also it's now fairly easy to start from scratch with a brand new niche site and brand new content. As long as you follow the new rules according to the latest LSI algorithm; the caffeine update, you could quite conceivably find your web site at the top of Google's search engine results page. Certainly you could reach page one.

It's not a given, naturally. You will have to put some work in, of course. But if you do and you create a quality site with original content that people find useful then there's no real reason why it can't be you.
