subject: An Experience on Mount Sinai [print this page] If you need a break and you want a beach holiday based in a beautiful part of the world, you should consider going to Sharm el Sheikh. Not only does it have a nice beach and some wonderful water sports to look forward to, it also isn't far from one of the most famous mountains in the whole world.
This is Mount Sinai, and regular trips are arranged between Sharm el Sheikh to see the mountain itself. You can enjoy the journey out to the mountain and have a wonderful experience when you finally reach the summit, before heading back to Sharm el Sheikh the next day. It may take you away from your holiday base for a night, but the trip is well worth making.
Most of the trips require you to get up early to climb the mountain before it gets light. This is done for one very good reason it means you can sit down and rest at the summit in order to see the sunrise. For many people this is the whole reason for taking the trip in the first place.
If climbing this famous mountain sounds a bit daunting, don't worry. The reality is not quite as arduous as you might think. It certainly pays to be fit but most people should be able to manage it if they are prepared.
In addition you don't even have to walk up if you don't want to. Camels are also used to help people ascend Mount Sinai, so you do have more than one option. Generally speaking most people find it takes two or three hours at most to complete the ascent.
Once the sun rises you can enjoy some superb views from the top of the mountain. Make sure you take your camera because even though it will be dark on the ascent you will need it when you do finally get to the top and it gets light. You will be able to see the Red Sea from your spectacular vantage point and if you have your bearings you should be able to tell which direction Sharm el Sheikh itself lies in too.
There is no question that this trip to Mount Sinai is one of the highlights of any stay in Sharm el Sheikh. This is where Moses is purported to have received the Ten Commandments, but even if you have no particular religious leanings this is still a trip worth making.
Holidays in Sharm el Sheikh do not have to include this trip out to the mountain. But as the majority of people who have made the trip will tell you, it is quite a way to see the sun come up in the morning.
