subject: Market your Book with Adwords [print this page] Promote your Book with Google Adwords Promote your Book with Google Adwords
If you are interested in trying out the world of paid advertising, Google Adwords is a great place to start. Adwords gives you complete control of your advertising budgetto the dollar. You can start with a $100 campaign and assess the results, and decide from there if you want to advertise more or not.
Adwords is pay per click advertisingyou only pay when someone clicks on the ad and visits your site. As a result it delivers something that marketers spend many thousands of dollars onimage advertisingABSOLUTELY FREE. That's right. It doesn't matter how many people see your ad and remember your name or the name of your book as a result. If they don't click through, the adis free.
So the trick with Adwords is to word the ad in such a way that ONLY the people most likely to buy your product, or sign up for your list, actually click through. Everyone else, every other person who saw your ad, is a freebie.
One way to do that is through the wording in the ad. For example, if you make it clear that you are selling something, and put in the price, only the people who might consider the buy will click through.
Another approach is to choose the sites on which you advertise with care. You can choose to advertise on Google's search network. That means that when someone puts in a search phrase of your choosingfor example "spiritual self help books"your ad will appear along with the search results.
The other way you can use Adwords is by advertising on Google's content
network. That means that if your keywords are "spiritual self help books" you will appear on relevant websites, sites which would appear in a search for "spiritual self help books."
Many advertisers will tell you that the search network yields more clicks, more sales per impression than the content network; many advertisers will warn you to stay away from Google's content network because you will burn through your adwords dollars before you even know what's happening, and find yourself deeply in debt.
Actually, this will only happen if you are not paying attention. You set the parameters with Google; and if you don't want to spend more than that first $100, you don't have to. It's based on what you sign up for, first and last.
As far as the effectiveness of the content network is concerned, it does need to be managed separately from Google's search network. Much of the success in the content network will be determined by the sites you select, and the sites you exclude.
For example: if you could advertise in the New York Times Book Review and the Washington Post, and pay very little money for the exposurewould you do it? Of course you would. And here's the big news: YOU CAN. You can elect to ONLY have your ad appear on these sites and nowhere else. Or you can choose to appear on sites tagged Religion and Spirituality, or Self-Help
Motivational Section. And then you advertise in increments, and re-assess often.
