Heart Palpitations, also known as arrhythmia, are abnormal rhythms of the heart. Your heart may feel like it is racing, pounding, skipping beats, or stopping all together. Palpitations are felt in the chest, neck and throat. Anxiety heart palpitations abnormal heart rhythms diagnosed as specifically to emotional or mental anxiety. A normal heart beats at 60 100 beats per minute. Abnormal heart beats are generally of four kinds:
1.Tachycardias - rapid heart rates, greater than 100 beats per minute.
2.Bradycardias slow heart rates, below 60 beats per minute.
3.Fibrillations irregular heart rhythms.
4.Premature contraction a single heart beat occurring earlier than normal.
Additional symptoms that may occur together with heart palpitation include dizziness, shortness of breath, excessive sweating ringing ears, muscle spasms and, in severe cases, loss of consciousness.
Other factors that cause palpitations of the heart include certain heart diseases, anemia, hyperventilation, abnormal heart valves, low oxygen or potassium blood levels, particular medical conditions (such as used to treat hypertension, thyroid conditions and asthma), cocaine, nicotine, diet pills, fever and stress.
Diagnosis
For effective diagnosis of anxiety heart palpitations, pay close attention to your experience during the palpitations, including when, where, how long they last, pace of heartbeat, body position, emotional state and other symptoms. This will help your physician determine the cause and seriousness of the condition.
Aside from carrying out a general physical exam a doctor will use diagnostic methods for detecting palpitations such as: electrocardiograms (ECG) skin recordings; cardiac ultrasounds (electrocardiogram); long-term cardiac monitoring for a period of twenty-four hours up to two weeks; electrode cathodes inserted into the heart to measure the cardiac electric system.
Treatment
The treatment targets both the abnormal heart rhythms and the factors causing anxiety. There are many safe, simple and natural treatment methods. Exercise that is moderate to very intense is highly recommended for dealing with anxiety heart palpitations. Physical exertion promotes blood flow to the brain and it also drives more serotonin hormone which has a calming, feel-good' effect on people. Any exercise that elevates your heart rate is good, such as jogging, brisk walking, aerobics, gym workout, cycling, swimming and weight training. A good exercise regime comprises of 30 40 minutes sessions, four or five times a week.
Avoiding situations that are giving you stress and worry is another method. Practice calming mechanisms such as deep breathing exercises, muscle relaxation and switching your focus to pleasant thoughts when you feel palpitations occurring. Meditation, yoga or tai chi done on a regular basis can also decrease the incidence of stress and the resultant palpitations.
Prevention
Palpitations can be prevented by reducing the reasons that cause them in the first place. In the case of anxiety heart palpitations, avoid factors that cause you stress and worry. Eating a well-balanced, low-fat diet and exercising regularly offsets high blood pressure and cholesterol problems that are linked to palpitations. Enroll in stress management courses such as yoga or meditation. Don't smoke, cut down on caffeinated drinks and avoid narcotic drugs such as cocaine and amphetamines.
