subject: How to Get More Customers with More Facebook Fan Page Fans [print this page] There's a lot of talk today about fan pages and Facebook fans. And a lot of business owners I talk to say, "Why do I care? Why do I want fans? What I want is customers. I want the phone to ring, I want people to walk through my front door."
What I'm going to do for you in this article is kind of connect those dots so that you understand as a business owner why you want fans, and how those fans can turn into customers for you. I'm also going to show you how to grow your fan page in such a way that those fans become customers.
Think about it this way. Your fan page is an awful lot like a retail store. And in order to make sales in a retail environment, the first step is that people have to come in. Right? That's a little bit like what happens when someone becomes a fan of your page: they're coming into your online store.
In a retail store, once somebody comes in, now you give them a positive experience. With your merchandising displays, the music that's playing overhead, as well as the traffic pattern. All those things go together to bring the foot traffic over to the cash register - to actually come over and buy something.
With a fan page, you've got different tools available to you. Of course you don't have merchandising displays, or traffic flow. Really all you can do is talk with your fans. And when I say "talk with," I don't mean just words. You can also use photos and videos!
And of course, the actual words that you use can be perfectly crafted to be just the right thing. Because you don't want the things you say on your fan page to be the equivalent of a lady in a retail store walking up to you, "Hi, may I help you?" Because we all know our reaction to that sales lady right? "No thanks, I'm just looking." And that's definitely not what you want!
Rather, what you want is for your fan page messages to develop you as a knowledgeable expert in your area, and to demonstrate your credibility. Also your sense of humor in a lot of cases. All of these things are the content and the value that your potential customers get when they become a fan of your page. And when your fans get content and value - and come to view you as an expert - now it's easy for them to make the transition into becoming customers.
So of course, just like in a retail store, you do need to make your goods and services available. But you've gotta be subtle about it. Doing these things - bringing people to your fan page, and then cultivating them into customers, is an art form. And it's an art form that can be learned.
