Nova Scotia Cottages and Hotels- Titanic Exhibit

For those people fascinated by the sinking of the Titanic, Halifax, Nova Scotia provides the rest of the story so to speak. Few people know that Halifax is home to hundreds of graves of the people who died on that ill fated night back in 1912. The city of Halifax helped recover the bodies of the victims becoming the final resting place for most of them following the massive disaster.

In addition to the graves, many items were actually salvaged from the wreckage and are on display along with a film about the event. 121 people who perished are buried at Fairview Lawn Cemetery making it a popular tourist attraction. Probably the most haunting picture are the grave markers all bearing the same April 15, 1912 final date.

This cemetery is very popular with the young tourists who only know about the sinking from the popular Hollywood movies made after the fact. The latest version starred Leonardo DiCaprio who played a character with the name of Jack Dawson. One of the grave markers in fact has the name J Dawson engraved on it. Many of the markers don't have names, the victims never identified. Other victims are buried at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery and Baron de Hirsch Jewish Cemetery.

The cemetery also draws the younger crowd of those who know the sinking from the popular movie staring Leonardo DiCaprio. In the film DiCaprio played a character named Jack Dawson. One of the grave markers at Fairview has name J. Dawson engraved on it. Many of the markers only carry dates since many who went down with the ship were never identified. In addition to Fairview Titanic grave markers can be found at The Mount Olivet Catholic cemetery as well as Baron de Hirsch Jewish Cemetery.

Not too far from the Cemeteries sits the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic which carries and extensive exhibit telling the tale of the sinking of the Titanic. In addition to pictures of the ill fated maiden voyage, there are a number of salvaged items saved from the waters. One item of interest ins the actual distress calls recorded after the boat hit the iceberg.
