Ukrainian color symbols were different in different period of Ukrainian development. The main Ukrainian national colors - barvy - are blue and yellow. They are considered state colors and used preferably and often only in combination. Dark blue is also considered to be the state color, but it's used generally separate.

The blue emerged in the Ukrainian symbols from the middle of XVII century as Hetman color, by analogy with the national colors of Moldavia monarchs, who had no right to use red color as vassals of the Turkish sultan. Combination of yellow and blue has even more recent origin and is associated with an award in 1708 of Karl XII Mazepa right to use the color of the Swedish military flag - yellow and light blue. Now - this is the official state color of the flag of the Republic of Ukraine. Red in Ukrainian symbolics means only spilled blood, i.E., deprived of its symbolic significance and is treated only as the talking logo, i.E. Simply means blood. In Ukrainian symbolic it was never associated with love, joy, embodiment of beauty.

This should be taken into account to avoid being hurt the national feelings of the Ukrainians. For example, do not to present red flowers to Ukrainians, but replace them with yellow, blue, white, purple. Crimson color symbolizes the heroic time in Ukrainian history, especially in the military. Its use is honor for Ukrainians. Green means rebirth including the Ukrainian national life. White means "samoposvyata", i.E. Self-sacrifice, but also the change of positions, which leads to the dual and contradictory interpretations in the application of white color in Ukrainian symbols. Black - the complaint, i.E. Mourning, and there are no other meanings.
