Every players goal is to checkmate the king piece of the opponent where it has no room for moving without being attacked or captured. The game includes a checkered chessboard with 64 squares in an 8 by 8 grid. Every player has 16 pieces for him to play the game which comprise of two rooks, eight pawns, two knights, one king, two bishops, and one queen. The players take alternate turns in moving their pieces and it should be noted that only one piece can be moved at a time with an exception on castling where movements of two pieces are allowed. It is a practice that the players with light colored pieces make the opening move and the corresponding piece can land on an empty square or on an enemy occupied provided that the piece can capture the opponents.
