We had a beautiful home, the perfect family car and a lifestyle that was a lot better and would make some people jealous.
I wondered if I would miss having my family in easy reach of me and being able to visit at virtually any time that was convenient to me. There was so much to miss too such as sausage sandwiches with brown sauce, a typical british fry-up with extra bread, the post office where the scales always needed to be adjusted when I needed to use and even the old lady next door who baked our children muffins.
I couldn't use these little things though as excuses too much longer because though they will always have a special place in my heart , we had to move soon though to take advantage of the US office markets very favourable pricing. I then decided I had to make an executive decision and tell the family that there would be no alternative but to move to the US office, we couldn't let nostalgia get in the way of the business growth.
I had to make sure that the move was very smooth to help the children cope, I made sure that the school appreciated that our children needed to settle into a new town and a new country. We had to make some stark choices and they weren't easy but we had to get the children to understand why we were moving.
The move has been and gone and now that it is over with it is easy to forget about the reservations that we first had. I am now going to tell you about my fave things about living in the US.
1) The food is absolutely amazing. I was at first sad to leave behind English food, I cannot believe how good the food is here, you really need to experience it for yourself. I am now able to eat in world famous restaurants that make people feel like kings and queens and cannot compare to the service and food I got in England.
2) The offices are bigger and modern. After some thought we decided to take Chicago office space and we can't believe how well it has worked. Important facilities are now under one roof such as conference rooms, a huge parking lot and a beautiful meeting room that make it easy to communicate with clients.
3) The people are just so pleasant. Though we are an English family, that are a novelty to some people here, there is definitely something different about the people here who are always happy to help and treat you well. Walk into any store and be treated with respect regardless of whether your are spending big or just browsing.
This is just a few reasons why making our office move to the USA has been wonderful and now we enjoy more money than we thought possible.
