subject: Moms: It's Never Too Late For Learning [print this page]

If you want to achieve great things in business generally a good education is key. Some people have suffered from lack of opportunity, and that category too often includes young mothers. To set a good example for younger generations, its important to begin by helping those willing mothers get an education.

The federal scholarships for moms are a new and important way of encouraging women to earn a degree. Started by President Obama in 2009, the grants for mothers are aimed at getting working, stay at home and single mothers to get enrolled in colleges and universities. The money comes from the federal Pell Grant program, and the $5,000 award can be used at schools of all types. The award money can be used for any direct or indirect school-related expenses. Hopefully this lack of undue restrictions helps moms realize the opportunities available to them.

The areas of study which are acceptable is another area of openness. There are almost no limits on the areas of study that can be taken up. Science, industry, arts and literature and history are just some of the areas of interest that many people hope can lead to a fulfilling career. Achievement starts by being knowledgeable and prepared. Although scholarships for moms provide a place to start, for many people it is difficult to know where that education will lead them.

The internet is a great tool for many things, including job research. The Occupational Outlook Handbook is one trusted resource. Produced by the Department of Labor, the OOH is valuable resource to research many areas of employment. The 10-year job projections can help analyze how specific jobs and an industry as a whole will perform in the upcoming years. CareerOneStop is another federal resource. There are many other reputable websites that can provide good information. Doing various searches and visiting many sites can give a 'big picture' view of the areas of interest to you.

Access to education shouldn't be stifled because of hard times. For those who are able, now is a perfect time to gain knowledge that will be beneficial to job development. Strong moms deserve chances to help strengthen their families, and education is a great start.
