Loss of self-confidence
Loss of self-confidence

Dalip Singh Wasan, Advocate.

It is on record that we, the people of India had been under Rajas, Maharajas, Monarchs and then under the imperialists for centuries and all these people had been trying to keep us slave and they had also been trying to ensure that we lose all self-confidence and could never raise our voice against them. Then the religious people also joined them and they had been telling us that all those who are ruling us or are rich and powerful had been great bhagatas in the last life and as a reward they got this life and are ruling us. We were told that we too can get a better life next time, if we are serving God and these representatives of God on earth. And because of these pressures and because of these guidelines given to us, we lost all self-confidence and we became slaves of these powerful people. We were having some hopes, but when we got independence in 1947 another set of people took over the charge. They are local and belong to our country, but they are having the same ideals with them and they have taken place of rajas, maharajas, monarchs and the imperialists and they are acting on the same lines which they had inherited and they are making all efforts through which they can become the same rajas, maharajas, monarchs and the imperialists and they are also having all rich and powerful people with them so that they could keep us at the same level where the earlier rulers had left us.

We are kept illiterate, poor, unemployed, we are living in the same huts and katcha houses, we are beggars, we are wearing on rags, we are not in a position to get proper treatment, we are not in a position to get a proper job and earning capacity, we are being exploited and none is caring for us. We are called at the time of votes and after getting our votes, we are pushed back to suffer for another term of five years. All powerful and rich people are also conniving with the government and they are one to keep us at the same level so that we could not get self-confidence. We are still behaving like slaves and we are having no authority or power to face these rich and powerful people and since we are kept poor, we are always busy to earn two time meals and therefore, we are not in a position to think and realize that we are living in a free and democracy. We are still considering all these people in chairs as our rulers and they are still rajas, maharajas, monarchs and imperialists for us.

Democracy could not bring for us anything new and therefore, if the conditions continue like the present, we shall never be able to call ourselves as free and democrats and we shall live life of slaves and the man who is slave is never allowed to attain self-confidence. Otherwise too, the people who are not having proper education, proper training, proper work, proper income can never attain self-confidence. And the present set of rulers shall never allow us to become free and democrats. They are living on because they are keeping us slaves and when we become independent and democrats, we shall not all these people to rule us like rajas, maharajas, monarchs and the imperialists and they are not willing to lose this status which they could get in 1947. People get the government they deserve and we deserve this type of government and we got this type of government which is trying to keep us as victims of inferiority complex.
