In the past I did contract social work and consulting successfully out of my home, typing reports there and even submitting them through the internet. I developed the discipline to motivate myself and complete my work independently. I admit I love the flexibility of working from home, setting my own schedule as convenient to my and my family's needs. This is not a new concept as women of years ago might have, for example, woven and sold rugs from their homes or baked and bartered goods. Finally, my children's father is from South America, and I appreciate the possibility of doing medical transcription work remotely from his country to allow my children to mingle with their father's family and practice Spanish during their summers off from school. Elaborating on the above, the possibilities of being able to work from home and from most anywhere are probably my biggest motives in choosing medical transcription as a new career path. Both of these motives are related to spending more time with my children, being home with them after school and being with them summers and school holidays, having more of an opportunity for part-time and flexible hours. I think many writers are quiet in nature and would love to have the opportunity to work from home. Finally, and not of least importance, medical transcription is a secure line of work as people will always need doctors and medical care.
