subject: What Is A Residential Courier? [print this page]

The better courier services will in time grow to a large enough size that they are able to offer more services. While many courier companies start off as a business-only courier service, as they expand, you will find that more and more Massachusetts delivery companies will offer a residential service as well. A residential pickup or delivery service means that the courier will actually go directly to people's homes to make pickups or drop offs.

Some couriers do not provide this service. If some people want to use their courier for personal shipping, they will have to drop off their package at their courier's depot, and then have their client pick up their package from the depot nearest to them if they are delivering to a home as well. This isn't very practical in most cases, which is why individuals that ship to or from homes need a company with a residential service.

There are basically two types of couriers that are going to offer residential service. The first is the type of company that will charge a fee for going out to a house, but which will do so just like they would make any other pickup. The second is a company which specifically sets out to serve the residential areas of their city. These couriers won't usually charge an extra fee if you request service to a home.

This isn't just a product of a trend towards people wanting delivery service right from their homes. The emergence of residential couriers is also strongly linked to the number of people that are now running their businesses out of their homes. This move towards home based business has heightened the need for residential courier service to an all time high.

Choosing which courier you are going to use for your residential service is going to depend largely on the volume of shipping that you are going to be contending with from your home. If you are only shipping every once in a while, any courier will do, and even those which assess a fee for home pickup are probably not going to be cost prohibitive. On the other hand, you might be running a business out of your home and need to ship regularly. If this is your situation, you are going to need to have all the savings that you can muster, including find a residential courier that won't charge you for that pickup.
