subject: A Summary Of What You Can Construct With Lean To Plans And How You Can Find Them [print this page]

What can you use a lean to for these days, and where can you get lean to plans? Well to begin, when most people hear the term "lean to" they think of several bundles of fragile sticks that have been tied together and propped up on a deserted island somewhere. However, in these modern times, the term is actually used to describe any shed or covered building with three walls and a sloped roof.

The plans to build a lean to these days are really just blueprints that have been updated to fit these modern times, and now use many of the kinds of building materials currently allowed in construction.

And, they can be used for a multitude of conveniences - except for living purposes, of course. So with that, here are just a few suggestions on what you can use your shanty for once you build it, and where you can find some plans to do so:

Greenhouse - One of the most popular uses for this dwelling is the greenhouse. The basic structures are supposed to be relatively simple for two people to put together and make operable during the course of a weekend - according to some of the plans out there, anyway. This is a good use for this type of structure, as a greenhouse makes it possible to protect those plants and flowers by controlling the environment.

Emergency camping shack - When it rains it pours - and usually, it's right during the first "roughing it" camping trip you've taken in years. Although it's not a necessity to have a bathroom with electricity or a camper to sleep in, an emergency shanty shack sure would come in handy during those unexpected thunderstorms.

Furniture storage: These buildings are usually excellent for housing things like brand new patio furniture, and other outdoor items you don't want ruined by too much sun or rain. You should be able to find instructions which can be altered to fit the measurements to house your things comfortably, along with details on how to slope the roof so it hangs down at the right angle.

The blueprints for this "shack" can be found in many different places. You can always opt for sophisticated "elegance" and buy both the plans and the pricey kit from a dealer. If you have the means and the know-how, you could even end up with something one of your in-laws will be begging to rent from you.

Another great place to find all sorts of building plans is at the public library - especially if you know you want to build SOMETHING, but have no idea of what it might be. By cruising the "how to" section, you are sure to come up with many ideas. However, one of the drawbacks is finding out too late that the manual you checked out to build your shed or cover is over 40 years old, and the suggested materials are no longer available.

And now the best for last. You can sometimes find lean to plans, and the directions for building many other things, online and for free! The internet is rife with them, but be sure you are careful in your selection. You will want to get direction from someone who knows what they are talking about, and isn't just throwing useless information out there without a thought as to what could happen if it falls into the wrong hands!
