Owning a Beagle can prove very enjoyable, but as these pets seem to have lots of energy training them can prove quite a challenge for the owners. To help you we offer some guidelines below for training Beagles that could prove extremely useful.

1. The first thing that needs to be done before training can commence is for you to build a strong bond with your pet. Doing this helps to increase the level of trust between you and your Beagle. If your pet feels that they can trust you then they will be more willing to learn what you are teaching them. Also by knowing more about the nature of the animal will also help you to find methods that are specially suited to your pet's character.

2. Owners must be consistent with the methods that they use and also be extremely patient. This breed of dog is not only highly intelligent and independent but can also be extremely stubborn. All of these are characteristics which makes them such good tracking and hunting dogs. By making sure that you are consistent and patient when training a Beagle will ensure that good habits are established from the very beginning.

3. It is important that when it comes to training, you use as much positive reinforcement as you can. This breed of dog is actually one like so many others that will respond better when rewards and positive feedback are given to them. They especially like to be rewarded for doing something correctly by being given a bit of food. But do not feed them too much when training as these animals can actually become overweight very quickly.

4. What you need to remember when it comes to training Beagles is that they have a very good sense of smell. So if they smell a new scent they can become quickly distracted and so regaining their attention for training can prove very difficult. To avoid this initially it is a good idea to begin their training in the comfort of your own home especially when it comes to young Beagles. This will help to reduce how many distractions they may incur and which can affect how well they do things when you are training them.
