subject: Why I Want To Become A Medical Transcriptionist [print this page]

Before now, I will be completely honest; I had never really considered a career in Medical Transcription. There were many possible careers I thought about, which is perhaps the reason that it took me so long to finally make a decision to go to college, do online courses, etc. It wasn't until recently that I even set my mind to trying medical transcription at home. A number of months ago, I heard about a job presentation taking place at the Kokomo Event Center in Indiana, where I am from. So I decided to give it a chance, even though the thought had never occurred to me in the past. What I learned during the presentation struck a good deal of interest through me but unfortunately at the time, it wasn't the right time for me to be trying to enroll into any kind of program. So again, it was kind of placed in the back of my mind for the time being until recently. I am currently a young married mother of a 1 year old boy and expecting a girl in May of this year and although my husband has always worked outside of the home, I have felt the need to pull my own weight and try to find something that would allow me to earn a little income without having to compromise my need to be a stay at home mom for my children's benefit.

I knew I wanted to go to college, since after I graduated in 2006 from high school, but had never had the money to attend the school I had gotten accepted to. I can't fully explain what drove me to think about medical transcription jobs once more but as I was browsing the choices that online courses had to offer, my mind was suddenly brought back to that presentation. It was at that time that I knew I wanted to at least try Medical Transcription since I have always done very well in English courses and typing. Also, an added bonus for me is I have always wanted to do something in the medical field without having to actually deal with trying to become a nurse. I have always excelled with learning and coping with computer softwares and my ideal job would be something similar to an administrative position in a medical office. I have always found Medical Terminology fascinating as well so to me, this would be a perfect job atmosphere. The advantages of becoming a Medical Transcriptionist to me are definitely that I can work at my own pace, so that I don't feel the need to be rushed all the time and have to deal with the constant stress of on campus college courses along with the natural stress of having a family to care for. Also, this is something that I can instantly dive into and learn about from the beginning without having to worry about going through all the prerequisite c courses that are generally needed on campus before you can ever get into your major or area of interest. So I can focus all my energy on what it will take to become a successful Medical Transcriptionist without having to waste 2 years of my life on an area of interest that I wasn't prepared for. Another advantage to me is that I have a family at home to take care of. Along with caring for my family, I can feel satisfaction that I am trying to better my career and earn an income along with my husband's. This way, I don't have to worry about finding a good babysitter to watch my kids so that I can go to class every day. Being there for my family is a top priority in my life so this gives me an awesome chance to do the things I love and my children still get the attention they need with their mother. After my training, I like the idea of getting to choose whether to work from home or whether I want to embark on finding a job outside of the home as well. I would have to say that finding Future MT was by far a sheer coincidence. After I had decided to look up some information about Medical Transcription, I just happened to see the link for Future MT and clicked on it. It was the very first link I even considered. When I started reading through the material on the webpage and checked out the tuition costs, I had a sheer drive to try everything I could to come up with a solution to enroll. I haven't enrolled yet because of financial issues, which is what I am currently trying to solve in the best way I know how. The first thing that drove me to the website was the free tuition offers because as some of you may know, having a family with only one minimum wage income is a struggle in itself without having to come up with tuition fees so that you can further your education. It has made it nearly impossible for me to even contemplate going to college. But it is much more than that as well. As far as I can tell, it appears that you will have live mentoring for students who need help with their course work or just have questions in general. That really helped in influencing me with choosing Future MT.

Just knowing that there are people available to talk me through any kind of problem I may run into is great reassurance for me. Also, knowing that you have accreditation is reassuring. Too many times, people fear at home courses and online degrees because there are so many people out there presenting complete scams and people get tired of losing money. Your money back guarantee is also a great reassurance. But most of all, what really influenced my decision was that you will even help the students after they graduate from Future MT on finding employment and also doing everything you can to help teach those who want to become independent Transcriptionists to be successful in their career. It is so refreshing to see someone so dedicated to helping the students. In the short term future, my main goal is to find something that fulfills me and something that I can expand my knowledge on. I want to be able to feel like I have some kind of self worth and that I am doing my equal share in providing money for my family to live on. Even though it has always been a dream of mine to be a stay at home mom, I have found that I cannot be fully satisfied unless I can help in some way financially with my family. That way, with the economy the way it has and probably will continue to be, I have a little stability to lean back on if my husband were ever to lose his job. I am also looking forward to becoming certified in Medical Transcription and hopefully in the long run, to feel confident enough to branch out outside of my home and look for a better paying opportunity that may be offered in my town. I'm hoping that I can become fully educated in Medical Transcription and that it can prepare me for other areas that may need a little work to become an excellent Transcriptionist.
