subject: Helpful Tips for Your Foreclosure Procedure [print this page]

When you are going through a foreclosure procedure, it is easy to panic and not know where to turn next. Keeping a cool head is important and so are the following three tips.

Number 1: Time is not your friend in foreclosure. Every state has their own laws that govern the timeline involved in foreclosure. If you want to save your home, you need to understand what those timelines are and what you can do each step of the way. The longer you wait to try to stop it, the more expensive it will become to stop.

Number 2: What you do not know can hurt you. If you are going through a foreclosure procedure and you want to save your home, ignorance is not bliss. You must learn everything you can about foreclosure. There is some general information that applies to all foreclosures but you will want state specific information as well because the laws that govern foreclosure are state laws.

Number 3: Your mortgage company calls the shots. Like it or not, your mortgage company is in control of the situation. There are certain laws and procedures that they have to legally follow but they are ultimately the ones that you have to deal with. You may get lucky and have an easy mortgage company to deal with or you might not. The key here is persistence no matter what. No matter how many messages you have left them, leave more. You will have to find out from them what they require in order to stop the foreclosure on your home.
