subject: Why Pub Parma's Are Are So Damn Good [print this page]

Forget a 12 course degustation menu.Forget a 12 course degustation menu.. You can keep your fancy $40 a plate "fusion" cuisine.. I'll take a pub parmagiana any day of the week.. (Well in fact I do). Pub food on the whole is pretty good. Always providing big servings of hearty food and combine this with a few of your favourite beers and you can't go wrong. However you ask any genuine pub enthusiast what their favourite pub meal is, the reply will undoubtedly be the "chicken parmagiana."

For some reason, this just hits the spot around the world, so we decided to investigate the reason why the chicken parma is so damn popular that it would be on par with the 3am kebab as one of the quintessential meals of pub culture.

To start with, everybody eats chicken. Even some vegetarians, who refuse to eat meat, will indulge in chicken. There is not a person on earth that when presented with a piece of chicken cooked well that will turn around and say "chicken.. na mate I can't stand it."

Once more, Snitchzel on its own merits is a top feed. Pubs that have parmas inevitably have Snitchzel's which although are popular, don't compare to the parma.

Last of all is the cheese on top with a bit of tomato sauce. Whilst the purists may argue that a parma also needs eggplant, they are mistaking a parma for a "pub parma" which is very different. Pub parma's are devoid of any pretentiousness which is why they taste so good. Chef's, let it be known that as a basic rule, putting a vegetable on something isn't going to make it better, particularly eggplant which is not exactly a crowd favourite when it comes to vegetables.

However as we soon discovered during our investigations into the pub parma, the popularity of this meal goes beyond the dish. Parma's are the meal of choice for mid week specials in pubs everywhere. We researched a bunch of pub websites and found that the parma is the number 1 meal on the specials list. Why is this so important?

Well with pubs largely being the domain of the working class, at times it can be hard to make ends meet, hence the pub midweek specials are attractive to many and as the parma is the most popular when it comes to specials, undoubtedly it holds a special place in the hearts of many pub lovers.

Finally, to anyone reading this article that has never tried a parma in their local pub, may we suggest you head straight to the pub, whether it is for lunch or dinner, point to the wide board, look the person in the bistro straight in the eye and say "1 parma please." You won't regret it.
