No doubt red wine makes the news, I think it's health benefits are something we all want to hear about! It's almost as good is discovering that chocolate isgood for you!
But how much truth is there to these claims? Is it just hype? It almost sounds too good to be true, doesn't it...
It's true, red wine (especially Cabernet) hashigh amounts of beneficial antioxidants: mostly resveratrol, quercetine, and flavanoids. But what about the alcohol content? Health professionals have always told us that alcohol is harmful. Alcohol takes the worst toll on health; from skin, to heart, to liver damage.
Because of the alcohol content, drinking only half a glass (to two glasses: for bigger men), every other day,is enough to reap the benefits of some of red wine's antioxidants. Anything more than that will actually do more damage than good, causing more of the damaging free radicals that the antioxidants are meant to protect your body from.
The skin from the grapes, when fermented, produce the high amounts of resveratrol in red wine. But Dr.Wylde (author of "The Antioxodant Prescription") says that the amount ofresveratrol in red wine isn't enough to feel the fullbenefits;you need to take the supplement form.
Some people should completely refrain from the consumption of alcohol, and for those, red wine would be of no health value at all. Read the full article here: http://www.antioxidantbuzz.com/redwineantioxidants.htmland check out the full debate about red wine antioxidants.
