subject: Keep Life Simple for Achieving Work Life Balance [print this page]

I have had some great teachers who have given me valuable lessons in achieving work life balance. My greatest lesson is in understanding that my life and the balancing of my life start within me, not outside of me. When I let go of what I thought my life was supposed to look like, let go of my illusion that I could control it, and quit pushing it to work, something miraculous happened. My life unfolded in front of me. And it was more spectacular that anything I could have ever envisioned for myself.

Achieving work life balance is letting go of your idea of what you think should happen. Ask yourself one big question. Whose life am I living? Am I doing what I want to do with my life or have I allowed someone else to define my life for me? A parent, a spouse, or society often dictate your path. Loretta LaRoche said we should all put this epitaph on our tombstones, "Got everything done, died anyway." None of us are getting out of here alive, so what is it that you really really want to do with your life?

Just for today, go through your day feeling life. Where is your life working and where is it not working? Where does life want to take you? Be spontaneous! Dare to do something different that is resonating within you. Go with the flow. See who and what appears in your life. There is a power greater than any of us directing our life to unfold in ways we could never imagine. If we just get out of our own way, life unfolds. Achieving work life balance happens when we go with the flow of life and stop trying to push life.
