Most ambitious young people dream of becoming a member of a student union. The fact is that the requirements for becoming a candidate are severe. It can be explained by the mission of a union. Members would represent students interests functioning as their advocates in various conflicts. Student unions have a significant impact on the life of the students community in general. For these reasons, candidates need to meet the requirements and correspond to the level of the position.

At the same time experience of membership in a student union could be beneficial for persons further career growth. Unions members have to solve various problems and build bridges to various people. This would improve their communicative skills as well as harden their will. At the same time these students need to juggle their social activity and their studies. It could improve their time-management and self-organization skills. Some members of unions start to enjoy it and continue their social activity after graduating from a college.

Becoming a good member

1.Before becoming a candidate, a person should evaluate ones abilities and motivation critically. A student should consider not only ones personal benefits of becoming a member but ones potential usefulness for the student community as well.

2.A member should be in the know of the latest college events. Research of the college history and history of student unions could enhance ones chances for becoming a member. A learner could review the current literature concerning the problem and make the appropriate conclusions.

3.It is important to devote time to developing a program. A student should concentrate on making ones program realistic. Sensible view could enhance ones chances for becoming a member. At the same time a good program is aimed at satisfying needs of the majority of students.
