Barbeque sauces today, are on the whole very special and in demand in every home, almost throughout the year. Also, the fact that they can go with almost any kind of food, makes them very different from the ordinary. Commonly used as a great marinade for meat, ribs, chops, chicken and shrimp, these BBQ sauces are smothered with it after it is grilled well.

While popularity of barbeque sauces has been growing incessantly, its originality is dated back to the 17th and 18th centuries in America, when these sauces were a mere combination of vinegar and pepper. They were most preferred in places like in North and South Carolina and in parts of Virginia and Georgia. An innovation like the mustard base sauce introduced in later years, was considered as a craze among the South Carolinians. This change was largely attributed to the Germans, which enjoyed popularity for quite some time. Over the years, many new spices have been introduced to the traditional BBQ sauces, and connoisseurs across America prefer to prepare BBQ sauces in their own style, making it the USP of that region. New variations introduced are based on different combinations of sweet and spicy, sour and tangy flavors, with core foundations such as mustard, tomato, vinegar and sometimes mayonnaise used often. A place like the Kansas City is famous for its thick, dark red gravy which has a hint of spice and is based on tomato with a mix of other ingredients such as molasses, sugar and vinegar. Whereas, the Texas City is famous for its spiciness and constituting elements of the family of peppers, an addition of tomato, and sometimes coffee being a part of it.

Barbeque sauces do not have standard set procedures of cooking them. They are prepared following the demand for a particular taste by the populace of a country. Essentially, ingredients that go into the preparation of the sauce include molasses, vinegar, lemon juice, Tabasco sauce and pepper that never swathe that magic. These barbeque sauces are simple and easy to prepare at home as well, using limited time to dish out a perfect sauce of your choice. Thickness or thinness can be measured according to the use spices and juices that determine the depth of the sauce. While some may prefer coating the steak with it right at the time of grilling to get a strong taste of it, others may prefer it the other way round.
