subject: Three Tips For A Better Job Search [print this page]

There are many things that you can do in order to help make yourself more marketable as you search for various jobs these days. You may think that there are a lot of job openings available, but the competition for these jobs is the part that may give you some problems. There are so many people out looking for jobs right now that employers need to have some way of narrowing down the competition.

1.Pump up your resume. Potential employers won't really get to know the real person that you are until you are asked to interview for a position. Your resume is how these potential employers see a glimpse of your abilities and that is what gives them their first impression of who you are. Make sure that your resume tells your best qualities and tells employers why you are qualified for the position. Employers don't have a lot of time to look at your resume. They should be able to get all the crucial information about you by taking one minute to look at your resume. Make it bold and concise. You can always elaborate about your accomplishments during the interview process.

2.Acquire some desired skills. Many jobs require that the people applying have specific skills. You don't want to apply for a job that you are under qualified for. A position like that would leave you confused and stressed about many different aspects of your job. Take the initiative to gain certain skills that will be marketable across many fields of work. Many jobs these days use computer skills of one kind or another so having knowledge and experience in operating different functions of a computer would be very helpful to add to your resume. There are Microsoft Outlook training products or sessions available that can help you learn more about computers. Participating in a training about Microsoft Outlook may help you get a great job.

3.Do not give up. Although it may be difficult and the job search may last longer than you would like, you have to keep searching. Talking with people you know about possible jobs can help you network and learn about more job openings.

These three things can also benefit other areas of your life as well applying for jobs. Of course, there are many different things that can help you land a great job, but these things are definitely going to make you stand out in a crowd.
