Jeff Foxworthy recently hosted his syndicated Foxworthy Countdown radio show for the last time. As reported by The Boot, the blue collar comedian hosted the final episode of the show, which counts down the Top 30 country hits while also showcasing side-splitting comedy skits and interviewing stars, during the weekend of Dec. 26-27. The Foxworthy Countdown debuted in 1999 with just 11 radio stations airing it, and had expanded to 250 stations (include 30 in Canada and a few in Australia) when it went off the air.

Recalling the first-ever show, Jeff Foxworthy recently told The Boot, "The first day I ever walked into doing (the show), it was just me sitting in a studio, so I said to Tom, our producer, 'This just feels way too lonely.' So I just made up all these people-like Leon the assistant that never talks, and Faylene the redneck psychic, and Art from Art's Cleaners...And even today, I'm in there recording it, and in my mind, they're all real people. [laughs] It's me on everything!" All of the lovable characters on the Foxworthy Countdown made an appearance during the final show-and Leon even spoke for the first time!

Foxworthy also spoke about the unique connection between country music and comedy to The Boot. "Here's the fun thing about this for me: country music is the only form of music that's always had comedy associated with it. You've got comedians in the Country Music Hall of Fame. And I think it's because we're both story tellers. That's what country music is, it's story telling. That's what comedy is," said the veteran comedian. Although fans are likely bummed that Foxworthy's radio show has come to an end, he can still be seen on the syndicated television show Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?

Though his name is now synonymous with blue collar comedy, Jeff Foxworthy's comedy career almost didn't take off! The Georgia Tech alum worked for IBM for a whole five years before he decided to embark on a career in standup after winning a contest at a comedy club in Atlanta in 1984. Said Foxworthy of his leap of faith in an interview with the Wichita Eagle, "Comedy was not a safe way to make a living, so I worked on mainframes. But thanks to friends who worked at IBM, I went onstage and I loved it. They encouraged me to give it a shot and they were right. I could do it."

Foxworthy released his first comedy album, You Might Be a Redneck If, in 1993 and it sold three million copies right out of the gate! Two years later Foxworthy, who has since sold a string of albums and books showcasing his redneck humor, appeared in The Jeff Foxworthy Show on ABC. The sitcom was cancelled after one season but NBC picked it up for another season (which would be its last). Network television may not be the place for Foxworthy's brand of humor, but he has remained successful in standup, books and films, such as with his pair of Comedy Central movies: Blue Collar Comedy Tour: The Movie and Blue Collar Comedy Rides Again.
