subject: There Is Still Gold In Nevada [print this page] Nevada is known nowadays for its mining activities, and for places like Las Vegas, that attract many tourists each year. People who dream of becoming extremely rich chose in the past to look for gold in the Nevada's riverbeds, the same way they now turn to casinos for fast money. Nevada holds first rank in the United States for the production of gold bullion. The percentage goes as high as 82 of the entire production of the country. Moreover, it is known globally, and it is preceded only by Australia and South Africa.
The 1848 was the year when all the gold frenzy started in US. The first discovery was made by a carpenter, on a January day, in Sacramento Valley, California. While building a watermill he found a piece of gold in the water. Against his wish, many people found out quickly about that and rushed to look for gold themselves.
The place of the first discovery is almost 50 miles away from Nevada. That is why many people who went to California had to go through Nevada County first. The same thing happened to a group of people, who in 1849, while heading to the golden fields of California, found a piece of gold in the streams of Carson River. Nowadays, in the exact area, the town of Dayton was built. Regions like the lands of Virginia Range were covered by people who looked for the precious metal on riverbeds.
Later on searching for the precious metal began to be done in a more organized way, by mining companies, who created many open-pit mines. Mines in places like the Jerriy Canyon, or Carlin Trend still exist nowadays. Carlin Trend is a place in the northeast side of the state, which is still one of the biggest producers of gold bullion in the world. Moreover, new deposits still are being discovered, like it was in the case of the South Antonio deposit first found in 2005.
US government tried to impose royalties on the mining companies that have mines located in public areas. But this led to controversy, and they reached the conclusion that it is better to give up on that idea as an additional measure to protect the jobs in the field. Gold attracted people in the past and still does, as people still decide to go on short adventures in the areas were the metal was first found, hoping to make new discoveries.
