subject: Batteries – Chargeable, Rechargeable & their Characteristics [print this page]

There are two types of batteries available in the market one is the non chargeable and another is rechargeable. Primary and secondary batteries are also other known names for these batteries.

Non rechargeable batteries are used for those devices which don't need much power to run. For example transistors, small toys, torches etc. These batteries are very convenient to use and are very cheap in prices. Moreover they contain higher energy as well.

But these primary batteries come with some disadvantages too. If thrown openly in the environment these batteries pollutes the surrounding by discharging harmful chemicals. This can be avoided by recharging these batteries but this is the scarcely available option, and not feasible always.

Rechargeable batteries or secondary batteries are the second best option available in the market. These batteries are best suitable for those devices and electronics machines which demands greater power supply. Laptops, phones and there are many other devices which are dependent on rechargeable batteries. As one can figure out by their names, that secondary batteries can be reused as per our convenience. Less wastage is an added advantage of rechargeable batteries at the cost of their high prices.

Rechargeable batteries have some disadvantages. The common one which we experience quite often is the time they required to get charged again. Sometimes even before their first use. The other disadvantage is same battery can't be used with different devices with comparer to the primary batteries. In short secondary batteries are not interchangeable. Their wastage may cause huge emission of harmful chemicals like Lead(Pb). This is much more dangerous for the environment.

There are many kinds of chemicals required to make batteries. Chemical aren't necessarily need to be distinct for making different batteries. Some material which is used to manufacture primary batteries can also be used for secondary batteries. It all depends on how the battery is being used in a particular device.

No matter what kind of batteries we use but these batteries play vital role in our day to day lives. And keeping this in mind, many battery vendors are running their online battery shops. Customers can buy batteries from there and can use as per their needs. Some vendors are also offering discounts to their consumer which is an advantage for all.
