subject: Home Wind Turbine Uses And Benefits [print this page]

Saving money, while contributing to keep our planet clean and green are some very strong characteristics of a home wind turbine. As these devices channel the mighty power of wind, the lack of toxic emissions is a wonderful thing about these power-generating units, making our planet a much nicer place to live.

Home wind turbines operate by generating electricity and harnessing it into a generator. On a high support pillar, three large air-catching blades attach to a rotor, which cycles to run the generator. Much like a weather vain, a specially installed fin positions the rotor of the device, keeping it inline with the direction of the wind.

Most frequently, an electric motor is the generator. This motor has spirals which circle around powerful magnets, creating a surge of electrical power. Huge rechargeable power cells stockpile energy which is then converted into electricity by an inverter, which can then distribute it throughout your house. The home wind turbine has been the homeowners "dream" alternative power source because it has seen vast improvements in motor effectiveness.

The size of your device depends on how the wind blows in your region. In areas where there are lesser wind flow, a very tall structure must be erected. If the area you live in has massive gusts on a regular basis, such coastal regions, the structure does not need to be as high.

Blades have evolved throughout the years. Now, more durable, lightweight blades are available to effectively power your wind turbine, even with less wind. No longer like the old 5-blade style windmill water pump, today's wind turbine models are constructed of only three much more aerodynamic blades, similar to that of an airplane propeller. As structure height varies, so do the sizes of the blades. The size is dependent on your home's electrical needs, and wind conditions. DIY wind turbine projects are even available.

Benefits of a home wind turbine:

1. Tax exceptions, and cheaper electricity, are HUGE pluses!

2. Run water pumps, household gadgets, and recharge battery cells.

3. This device is GREAT for the ecosystem.

4. Always have electricity, even when the power goes out.

5. Become less dependent on money-hungry power companies.

6. This device is NOT difficult to run.
