Acne is among the most common, troublesome disorders. This is a problem that most commonly stays with teenagers through to their adulthood. The scars left by acne are often permanent and can create a long-lasting hurt to one's self-image. So, people become overly self-conscious of their general appearance.

Is Acne contagious?

Often, there is a concern among people that acne could spread among people in a communicable way. The fact is that for any disease or condition to become contagious, a medium or an agent is necessary. Since acne has no such mediating elements through which it can carry itself from person to person, one need not worry about its being contagious. It's therefore improper to say that acne is contagious.

Causes of Acne

Acne is generally caused by the result of hormonal changes causing the sebaceous glands to enlarge and produce excessive sebum. The sebum unable to come out, gets clogged within the gland and expands it. Bacterium named P.Acnes that triggers inflammation within the acne, is normally found on everybody's skin, alike. Therefore, we can conclude that acne can never be contagious.

How to prevent it?

Though acne cannot be totally cured, it can be prevented to a large extent by take some care towards keeping it away. Take a consultation from your doctor regarding the effects on acne, before going for any hormonal medication or if expecting pregnancy. Wash your face frequently and use Alpha Hydroxy acids regularly to keep you skin healthy and scrupulously clean.
