How does a web crawler encounter duplicate contents

Duplicate contents are completely similar or mostly similar to some other previously available content. But it could be that the document addresses are different. There are three situations when web crawler encounters duplicate contents. These scenarios are:

• If two pages have similar content but different URLs. These contents may be in the form of a combination of regular page and its redirected page that is temporary.

• If two pages target a similar URL but originate in different URLs, then they will be known as duplicate contents.

• If the content of regular and temporary redirected pages happen to be same and the redirected page targets the URL of regular page.

The detection of the duplicate content

Google can detect duplicate content through its new patented Duplicate document detection in a web crawler system. Google's web crawler checks the server of the duplicate content to see whether it is a copy of the other page or not. They then use the algorithm to determine the correct version and the duplicate version. Most often the better written version becomes the most important version and gets a better ranking.

Google also uses content fingerprints' to determine whether the new web page has duplicate content or not. There are chances that the page with highest page rank may not become the most important URL for any particular content.

How can you get high ranking for your content?

There are many ranking factors on the Google search and hence to make your URL the most important one.

• The First and foremost way is to make unique content for your webpage and keep it extremely streamlined. Never diverge from the topic and keep it as unique as possible.

• Put more inward links on your webpage to get more traffic to your website.

• Even if you need to use the same content that is already available on some other website, change the complete structure and words of the document. Make the content different if it has the same essence and meaning.

• If your webpage content is checked for plagiarism, you have nothing to worry about, as it will be chosen as a most important URL.

Thus very important ranking-factor is that you get absolutely unique content and keywords for your page so as to avoid being detected by Google as having duplicate content.
