subject: Should You Fear Anxiety? [print this page]

Before I delve into the long answer to the question addressed in the title of this artice, I'm going to go ahead and give the short answer. The answer is an emphatic NO, you should not fear anxiety and my hope is that by the end of this article I will have sufficiently explained why.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ANXIETY?

People who suffer from anxiety disorder are affected on different levels. On the lower end of the scale there is mild anxiety disorder, which manifests itself in shyness, and on the higher end of the scale, more severe generalised anxiety disorder which may manifest itself in myriad symptoms. It is this latter kind which commonly causes sufferers to fear anxiety and it is this kind which forms the subject matter of this article.

Anxiety is capable of creating a wide variety of physical symptoms and the short list that I provide below is by no means exclusive:

1) Depression;

2) Insomnia;

3) Nightmares;

4) Tension Headache;

5) Dizziness;

6) Heart Palpitations;

7) Depersonalisation;

8) Confusion.

APPROPRIATE VS INAPPROPRIATE ANXIETY

Many people fear anxiety because they believe it is an uncurable illness and that unless they take prescribed medication it will never go away. This is simply not true. Anyone who is reasonably knowledgeable on the subject understands that anxiety is a behavioural condition that can be naturally cured and that you should not fear anxiety.

To understand what is meant here I will need to explain what causes anxiety. Anxiety, also known as the 'fight or flight' response, is triggered in the subconcious part of the brain called the 'amygdala'. Anxiety serves a very important function in our bodies when it is appropriate, ie, when REAL danger is present. When we are faced with real danger, being chased by a lion for example, the anxious response is appropriately triggered and the person may during this time experience phenomenal physical and mental strength.

Anxiety disorder develops in a person because for some reason, perhaps due to negative lifestyle factors or stress, his or her amygdala has been reset to a level of anxiety that is innapropriate. It is inappropriate anxiety because it causes the person to become anxious in situations where there is no real danger present. The person may experience any number of symptoms in situations when he or she should normally feel very relaxed and because the symptoms are so unpleasant the person may naturally begin to fear anxiety itself.

WHY DOES IT NOT GO AWAY AND WHY DO PEOPLE FEAR ANXIETY?

The reason that the anxiety remains is quite simple. Because the amygdala has been reset to an inappropriate anxious response, the body believes that this has now become the normal state of affairs. It therefore continues to produce symptoms and sensations of anxiety and the reason for this is because the sufferer consciously and subconsciously perpetuates these symptoms through his or her behaviour.

Why does this happen? As explained above the person begins to fear anxiety because of the unpleasant physical symptoms which it causes. Even though these symptoms are merely harmless SENSATIONS of fear instead of real fear, by allowing these symptoms to scare him or her, the person begins to fear anxiety itself and the body then naturally responds with more anxiety because it thinks that the person is supposed to be scared. This is what is meant by anxiety being a behavioural condition.

SHOULD YOU FEAR ANXIETY?

ALL of the symptoms of anxiety are completely harmless. So no, you should not fear anxiety and if you do, you will perpetuate it. Surprisingly, many anxiety sufferers are not told this when they visit the doctor. Anxiety disorder is nothing more than harmless sensations of fear rather than real fear itself and should be ignored. Again you must understand that if you fear anxiety you will perpetuate the anxious response because the body will think it is supposed to be scared.

CAN YOU CURE ANXIETY?

YES. There is a fast, effective and 100% guaranteed method of curing anxiety naturally and permanently. It works by breaking the anxious cycle and resetting the aygdala back to the appropriate anxiety level. If you implement this method you will be cured as it works 100% of the time with EVERYONE. In the meantime, take care and remember not to fear anxiety - it is nothing more than harmless sensations and you WILL beat it!
