subject: What We Have Learned About Your Triathlon Bike [print this page]

At Rock Star Triathlete Academy over the past few months we have had some of the most highly regarded experts in the world when it comes to cycling aero dynamics, come and share some awesome knowledge.

We have picked up some great knowledge. In this article we will share with you some tips that may see small but can make a big difference come race day.

1) Aerodynamic wheels work. You don't just have to be a beast averaging over 25 MPH to get the benefits of using a deep rimmed wheels either. There is some data that actually shows that slower riders may see more benefits from aero wheels than the sup fast riders.

2) Hide your cables. Do you have lots of cables on your bike? You can loose a few seconds over 40K for every foot of exposed cable on your bike. This dose not mean you have to go buy a new bike with internal cabling. Just find a way to cut down on your cable and find ways to tuck them away tighter.

3) Be super smooth. Shaving arms, Legs, using the tightest clothing you can, no stickers and waxing your bike will all help you save valuable time over a race. Doing all those thing will also make you look sexy too.

4) Comfort matter. You may be in a super aero position on your bike but if you struggle to breath well and run fast off your bike you may want to look at your bike fit. Make sure the fit get you the best results which may not mean you are not, technically the most aero rider.

5) Even your tubes count. Using light latex race tubes can actually help you to gain about 5-10 watts. Its a small investment that can pay dividends down the road.

Of course, there are many other aerodynamic changes you can make to your triathlon bike, including water bottles, water bottle straws, aero helmet, aero bar and more, but we thought these 5 points were quite interesting!
