subject: Overnight Parking – Things to Consider [print this page]

When it comes to purchasing car insurance, many people neglect to consider ways in which they can save money on their premiums. One common factor people neglect to consider is where their car will be kept overnight.

Being able to prove to your insurance company that you keep your car in a garage overnight can significantly influence the price of your car insurance policy. The cheap car insurance premiums are usually reserved for such people; if your car is parked in a garage overnight it will reduce your insurance premium considerably.

We probably all know of someone who's garage is so full of clutter that they are no longer able to keep their cars there overnight. In the current financial climate, everyone is looking for ways to save money, and de-cluttering your garage is an ideal way to do so. Making room for your family car will save your family money.

A simple solution is to purchase garage storage devices; specialised kits can be purchased at a reasonable price, meaning that you will be able to arrange your space so that the original clutter is tidied away, whilst making space for your car. In effect, your garage serves the dual purpose of storage and parking; with the added bonus of saving you money on your car insurance.

A word of warning; if you state to your car insurance company that you keep your car overnight in a garage, but actually park on a driveway or road, and they discover that you made a false statement or inaccurately described your circumstances, it is likely to affect any claims you may need to make against your policy. If you do claim and your policy is proven to be inaccurate, you will be liable for the full cost of repairs any money you saved paying your premium will be subsequently used up paying for damages.
