subject: Dating Advice For Boomers - How To Get Back In The Saddle [print this page]

How the dating scene has changedHow the dating scene has changed. It used to be rare for seniors or even older singles in general to date. Today, there are more older and senior singles openly dating than ever before, and loving it. This article is about dating advice for boomers, and how to get back in the saddle.

With marriages getting delayed due to career considerations and the ever increasing divorce rates, more and more older singles are finding themselves in the "market" again. There is quite a "healthy" number of boomer singles seeking partners today. However, this does not mean that dating is easy for this demographic.

As for the when the boomer period began or ended, this is not clear and is of subject controversy. For practical purposes, we shall take this to mean anybody born around mid 1940s through around mid 1960s. It was also a time of great changes in the world; socially, economically, politically and technologically.

And just by the way, while boomers may be referred to as "seniors", this does not mean that all boomers are senior citizens per se, but is simply a general term that refers, with due respect, to anyone over the age of 50.

No dating advice for boomers would be complete without touching on the subject of relationship readiness. In fact, relationship readiness should be first in the order of things when it comes to boomer dating. Why?

Well, more often than not, older singles are trying to get back into the dating scene after a long and steady relationship with one person. Often too, the memories of the last relationship, whether sweet or bitter, are still fresh. This can be exacerbated by feelings of guilt about "cheating" on a departed sweetheart in the case of a widow or widower.

Relationship readiness is a complex issue that can only be dealt with on individual basis. Therefore only the individual concerned can really decide on whether she/he is ready to date again. It is always advisable to seek the help of a licensed therapist on such issues.

But on a more positive note, senior (or boomer) dating is not just possible, it is thriving. Not only that, it is very decent. We are not talking about some old men or women - if you will excuse the word "old" - running around after boys and girls several decades their junior. We are talking about older singles seeking partners within their own age group or at least close.

So, where can boomers go to find love, romance and relationships? Well, bars and night clubs are not exactly designed with this age-group in mind. And hunting for a date in the same bar as your grandchild is not exactly endearing.

The best place for a boomer trying to get back on the saddle to find a date is online. Why?

Because that is where most people of all ages and from all walks of life go to find mates. But while you can be very specific and narrow down your search by age among other criteria in general dating services, you are better served joining an online dating service for seniors. These sites are specifically designed for singles over 50.
