subject: Planning For The Prom [print this page]

Prom is an important night for every high school student. Making preparations for the prom will let you avoid the panic and anxiety on the day, while making sure that everything runs smoothly so you can relax and enjoy every minute.

The planning process should begin as soon as you know the exact date of the prom. A notebook would be helpful to keep track of your plans. Making a list of all the items, cutting out pictures of dresses and hair styles you like, storing phone numbers and contact details of limo hire companies, hair stylists and restaurants and crossing out a completed task. Not only does this help you keep track of your plans, it can make for a fun addition to a photo album or scrapbook one day!

Start looking through magazines and in stores for dresses, hairstyles and accessories at least three months in advance. Don't forget that a date is part of the plan and if he isn't asking you, you can ask him!

If you are planning to use a hair or beauty salon, book them in advance since prom season is a very busy period for these establishments. At the hair salon, book for the day as well as 2 weeks prior for a trial run. If you are hiring a limo for the night, book it at least two months in advance. Dinner arrangements should be made at this time too, and any reservations or bookings for after-parties or breakfasts made as well.

A month before the prom, your outfit should have been finalized. If your date and you are color coordinating, you have to decide already by this time. If it's possible, buy the dress, shoes and other accessories now, if not, then at least you should already have plans for them. To see if everything is working as well as you wanted, try on the entire outfit along with the earrings, purse and hair accessories. This gives you time to change or replace items that aren't working as well as you thought they would. Wear in your new shoes now to avoid blisters and agony on the night.

Make sure that any alterations to the dress are done, and book the corsage and boutonniere at the local florist a few weeks before the prom. Your trial run at the hairstylist will have been booked for this time, or if you are doing your hair yourself, practice now.

Don't have a facial any later than a week before the Prom. Facials can cause a breakout and you don't want zits on your face the night of the prom. Manicures and pedicures, however, may be done the day before the prom.

Confirm all the reservations you have made ' dinner, limo, hair, nails, breakfast etc so that everything goes smoothly.

To avoid last minute problems and the panic that comes with it, plan the prom in advance. Writing all the plans down help keeps track of what needs to be done, and makes sure nothing is forgotten. Now go out and have fun!
