subject: The Foss Nir Technology [print this page]

The NIR system was originally owned by AB which was first released in the year 1997. The company later on acquired Perstorp Analytical and went on in producing FOSS NIR technology. This made FOSS the leader in providing instruments or devices for the analysis of foods, medicines and chemicals in general. FOSS almost saturated the market by having 75% of the worlds milk, beer and grain tested through FOSS NIR technology.

The FOSS name originated from its founder, Nils Foss who built the company in the year 1956. A lot of processes became a lot easier, safer and less time consuming making production more reliable and efficient. Today, FOSS NIR is known as the worldwide leader in the field of analytical solutions for different industries including pharmacy, agriculture, food and chemistry. The process and the brand are trusted for it provides continuous and focused analysis all throughout the course of production.

FOSS, being the industry leader in the business, is the largest supplier of FT-NIR technology or the Fourier transform-near infrared. This is the most commonly used infrared (IR) spectrometry method in the whole of the United States of America. In order for FT-NIR to grow and be used outside the laboratory, just within the FDAs Process and Analytical Technology (PAT), new application should be discovered and innovated. Being able to analyze component distribution in powder blend or tablet is being looked into as the solution.

There are so many functions of the FOSS NIR technology in various industries today. FT NIR and FOSS NIR spectroscopy makes microbial analyses easier and faster because it uses advanced calibration methods. The methods being utilized are developed by the FOSS Systems as well.

One advanced method being used by the FOSS System is tagged as ANN or Artificial Neural Network. This provides less hassle and much more reliable result to tasks that are analytical and complex in nature. Aside from being functional in the industry of chemicals, agriculture and foods, FT NIR and FOSS NIR are also practical in measuring body fat in the human body.

There are more industries being discovered that can use the FOSS NIR and FT NIR technology. Today, the Chinese market is being looked into in terms of regulating Chinese products.
