subject: Doomsday 2012 [print this page] The world held its breath when the countdown to the year 2000 happened, as the ball slowly dropped in New York, people panicked. The people in the world were all caught up in the end of the world or Y2K and after the calendars marked January 1, 2000 life went on as usual. Absolutely nothing happened on Y2K or even came close to happening, people were confused, they had built up so much hype to the event that no one really knew why the world was doomed. Here civilization is again in the year 2009 and what a surprise the world has to end again. Christianity says that god will come back somewhere in the year 2000-3000 time frame, which somehow translates into 2012, and Judasiam seems to think the end comes at 2240. Buddhists seem uninterested in the idea of the apocalypse and as usual have the best explanation of things stating that, in simple terms, the end of the world is the end of their religion to them.
Christianity has no real connection to the 2012 apocalypse but it does give a broad term on which the end of days is supposed to happen. Christianity simply states that the end of the world will come somewhere in between the years of 2000-3000. Because of all the propaganda of the Mayan calendar, the date 2012 just so happens to fit under that time frame. It's funny however, because tomorrow and the next day fit under that as well as next week and the week after. According to Christianity it could just happen any day now but because the Mayans said 2012 then it has to be 2012. Christianity, however, does contradict itself by saying, quote, "..because Jesus had said to his followers to be alert or be ready at all times." This means that, according to Christianity, the world could end at any given moment; however Mayans, who weren't even close to living at the same time Christianity was around, somehow predicted 2012 as the end. Due to the propaganda that favors 2012 as being the end, people use Christianity as a backup reason on why the world is going to end that year. Because Christianity's timeframe for the apocalypse is so large, these religious beliefs have to be struck from the non religious 2012 belief.
Somehow, through meaningless calculations like the Y2K prediction, the Jewish faith has predicted the end of days to be many years away from 2012. The Jews have predicted the year to be 2240 on which the world is supposed to end. This calculation, which is based on the Talmud, is absolutely nowhere near the glorified 2012 date. Even in Judaism the apocalypse isn't talked about much but that same apocalypse has something to do with a new world. In other words, when this world ends a new world begins. The predictions of the 2012 end of days seem to lean more towards the total annilation of the earth with no beginning of a new world. This combined with the fact that the dates are very far from each other simply mean that the correlation between the 2012 armageddon and that of Judaism's predictions don't match up.
Buddhism usually offers insight of questions that usually go unanswered or ignored in other religions and offers a great insight to the end of the world. The end of the world according to Buddhism will result in, quote, "Buddha's teachings will disappear from the Earth, only to be reinstated by a new Buddha. Unsurprisingly, the "mellowest" of the end-time scenarios." This simple means that the religion itself will fade away from the earth instead of an unavoidable doom to all humanity. As usual Buddhism uses its hidden logical side to make sense out of the hysteria but in turn has the least correlation between the 2012 predictions. Buddhists on the web refer to the 2012 apocalypse as things like "uninteresting" and "monotonous in the fact that humanity is always looking for a date to die on." Buddhism as a religion has absolutely no correlation to the 2012 prophesies, even less so than Judaism and Christianity.
In conclusion, the completely blown out of proportion 2012 date has little to no correlation to three major religions. What if the Mayans simply ran out of room to make the calendar because they couldn't continue it forever? The 2012 is liberal media at its best and is also a result on letting ignorance run crazy in the streets of America.
