subject: Decorating By Pros Or By You? [print this page]

There are a lot of factors which could influence your decision on whether to under-go the job by yourself or to employ a professional to do it for you, these could be costs, size of the job, accessibility, your age and of course most importantly for the ladies, how good looking the decorators are...

It's obvious to see why people do decide to call the professionals in as DIY can be time consuming and laborious, especially if you work full time and genuinely do not have to the time to deal with the jobs at hand personally. Of course the professionals do generally have the advantage as they have access to the correct tools and equipment needed in order to complete a certain job, which you may not have and it would be cost effective to purchase such items. Although it is not uncommon to get 'done over' by the so-called professionals and it is always a good idea to make sure you have done your background checks and read all the companies feedback before committing yourself and handing over your money!

If you do decide, however, to go DIY and scrap the professionals, it can be extremely rewarding and ego boosting if done correctly, or it could go to opposite way and crush your confidence in your 'handy work' skills. There are more DIY shops nowadays than I have had hot dinners! So you're never going to be short in the materials and tools area! It's a good idea to shop around and bag yourself a bargain though, as most places can get away with daylight robbery these days!

The biggest problem in which I have faced in this area is the expenses, it's just as expensive these days to DIY as it is to get the professionals in with the extortionate prices of material, tools and other equipment needed to simply re-plaster or re paint your walls! So when it comes to finance, in my opinion you might employ someone else to do the dirty work while you sit back and enjoy the view!

Since it doesn't look like we're ever going to get out of the credit crunch anytime soon, it's advisory to save your pennies and go with whichever idea that will cost you the least, both have many advantages and disadvantages, just like any other decision and it really depends on which suits your personality and general needs the most.
