subject: Enjoy Using Bar Soaps With Soap Making [print this page]

Soap can be found in different formsSoap can be found in different forms. Aside from the regular bar soap, it can also be found in liquid form. It is needed whenever we need to clean our bodies when we shower as it can remove dirt and oils that tend to build up on the skin. In today's times, liquid soap has gained popularity and have replaced the regular bar soap. But with the many designs and properties that can be added to bar soaps, they are also regaining their popularity.

Now if you think that making those kinds of soaps are hard, think again. Soap making is a very easy process that almost anyone can do it. Even children can make this into a hobby as long as they wear protective equipment and work supervised by adults.

There are two methods of soap making, you can use either one depending on your own preference and ingredients. The first method is called the hot process, wherein you will need to heat your soap mixture during the entire process. The cold process on the other hand, uses the same ingredients but heating of your mixture is not needed. The first method is generally used if the lye that you are going to use is impure and there is no way for you to measure its exact amount.

The main ingredients that you will need to make soap are oils and lye. By mixing these two ingredients, you will already be able to make the most basic type of soap. The first thing that you need to do is dissolve the lye completely in water while heating in the hot process (heating is omitted in the cold process as stated earlier). Next, the oil will then be poured with continuous heating and mixing. The exact measurements are needed for the cold method or the soap may come out too oily or too caustic if these measurements were not followed.

Once the above mixture has become homogenous, you can now place the mixture into molds and wait for them to harden. You can choose different kinds of molds to suit the design that you want to make. Addition of dyes may also be done before or during pouring of the mixture into the molds to give your soap the color of your preference.

The hardened soap can then be taken out of their molds and further designs can still be added using knives. Fragrant oils and lotions can be added to give your soap the properties that you like. Others may even use herbal leaves to help give their soap a more therapeutic effect.

When making your soap, you should already have the finished product in mind. This means that you should choose the specific type of oil that you will use so that your soap will have the property that you like. If you plan on using your soap as a display, use oils that will give your soap a harder property. If you want to use it for showering, you may choose oils that will be good for lathering.

Because of the many ways that you can alter hard soaps, soap making is really a very fun hobby to do. It will stimulate your hands and mind as to how to think of creative ways to make your soap. Now, you won't have to buy those regular and boring soaps at the supermarket, when you can start making your own soaps at home.
