subject: Using Steam Cleaners To Eradicate Bed Bugs Now [print this page]

In the past, the use of insecticides was all too frequent and many six considered as, developed resistances to these chemicals. Bedbugs among other tests are resistant to many chemicals that have been used in the past 20 to 30 years. In fact this increased resistance has been a problem for those in agriculture as well as homeowners in attempting to deal with pests. However using steam cleaners to eradicate bed bugs is one of the natural treatments which works.

Today many more consumers are concerned about the use of chemicals within their homes and on their food products. The results of this concern has led to more research in natural techniques to kill pests with no chemicals. Not all natural methods are successful, but still the search continues. Using steam such as that from cleaners is a technique which avoids chemicals, and with repeated applications can help eradicate bedbugs.

Steam cleaners as bed bug killers use what we know and understand of bed bugs against them. The bedbugs and their eggs are highly sensitive to heat. While placing an entire house in a microwave is not yet a practical solution, using steam on as many surfaces as is possible is practical. A steam carpet cleaner can be used on mattress of course where the annoying critters live but also on most other surfaces.

The pest we know as a bed bug is a very small insect of a clear brownish color, and is almost in undetectable unless you look very closely. They lived in dark nooks and crevices within mattresses as well as cracks in walls in the carpet or even beneath furniture. It only takes heat greater than 120 degrees applied directly to them to kill them however they can live in many areas of the house and not just the mattress.

In addition to using steam on the mattress on all surfaces, all bedding should be washed thoroughly. Also if the bedbugs have colonized other parts of the house then a wider area of treatment may be needed. Fortunately, a steam machine can be used to spray almost all surfaces within the house safely except for any with exposed wiring. It is wise to avoid applying steam directly to electrical connections wall sockets or wiring.

Steam cleaning the entire floor surface or carpet is also important and can help kill both the insects and the eggs. Additionally if the problem with bed bugs is very severe than it's important to also close up any cracks within walls or wallpaper and properly seal them new paint or wall paper. The underside of furniture can also be treated safely with steam.

An important tip to note is that a small sized nozzle will treat only a small area. The problem with treating only a small area is that it can heat nearby surfaces just enough to warn the bedbugs to move but not to kill them. Migrating bedbugs can cause the problem to begin all over again and make completely eradicating them that much harder.
