subject: Recommendations For ADHD- Making Sure Your ADHD Child Is Healthy And Happy [print this page]

Everybody seems to have their own recommendations for ADHD. We read about the success rates of psychsotimulants, how equine therapy can really help, dietary suggestions, behavioral therapy dos and don'ts and so on. At the end of the day we have to ensure that our ADHD child is actually growing up with the maximum support we can give him or her and is as healthy and as happy as he can be.

This is why the recommendations for ADHD suggested by homeopathic medicine seem to me the best possible way forward. Why? Simply because homeopathy takes into account the whole child and is trying to restore a lost balance. Everything will impact on that balance and the homeopathic remedies will restore the delicate balancing act between the central nervous system and the brain. In that way, there will be less hyperactivity, impulsivity will be reduced and the child will be able to focus again and start learning. I have seen children do remarkably well in a very short space of time when they follow these ADHD recommendations.

EEG Biofeedback or neurofeedback has received a lot of attention in the press. The neurotherapists have shown in various trials that this sort of treatment is just as efficient as treating children with Ritalin, the well known ADHD psychosytimulant which is made from methylphenidate.

The advantages of this type of treatment are enormous and it is now approved by the FDA. First, there are no worries at all about side effects as there are none. Secondly, the results are lasting in that the child learns to retrain his brain and inattention and focus all improve permanently over time. With the medication, that never happens and after three years, the effects begin to wane! The only drawback is the expense as it requires considerable financial commitment. There is a hope that EEG treatment for ADHD may be covered in the future by health insurance.

Other recommendations for ADHD include some simple lifestyle changes and these are very useful, practical and easy to implement. Apart from psychostimulants, what else can stimulate the brain? Food can, of course and that is why we take caffeine to keep alert. That is also the basis of all these amphetamine like drugs. But there are other ways of stimulating a child's brain without any risks at all.

We can do this through an exercise program whereby movement will increase blood circulation to the brain and will positively affect the dopamine and the norepinephrine brain transmitters,. There are the ones that motivate, reward and help a child top carry out tasks. The health benefits are enormous. Contrast that type of activity to a child who is abandoned with a video game for hours and hours and is given a Ritalin pill every now and again.

As regards the other ADHD recommendations such as the homeopathic remedies for ADHD and the dietary changes, I have prepared a website where I have explained it all in great details. These are my recommendations for ADHD. If yours are different, that is fine but at least I hope to have helped you to make an informed choice.
