subject: A Look Around The Brilliant Iphone 4 [print this page]

Apples ever popular iPhone range has received a boost in the form of the latest addition to the family, the iPhone 4. Utilising some of the technology found in the Apple iPad, the new phone certainly seems worth of the media hype that surrounds it.

A new processor is working as the engine that drives everything along on the iPhone 4. Apples own A4 chips has been chosen instead of the ARM Cortex A8 chip that was used in the impressive 3GS. And if you thought that it would be difficult to improve on the speeds found on the 3GS, then take a look at the iPhone 4. The processor handles the new multi tasking facilities with ease, and loading of application seems faster than ever. A new operating system has also been launched to coincide with the release. The IOS4 has seen some neat changes take please. In a bid to tidy up the potentially congested homescreens, there is now the option to categorise apps into various folders. For example, you can have a "Productivity" icon, and when clicked it will show the applicable apps which could be calculator, converter etc. With an ever growing number of applications, this is a nice way of keeping things in order. A wallpaper can also be added to the homescreens, rather than the default black background, giving the menus a little more life. The e mail system has also changed, with it now allowing the user to collaborate several accounts in one unified inbox, making picking up your mail easier than ever.

Looking at the iPhone 4 for the first time it is easy to see that the world famous design has undergone cosmetic changes for the first time in its history. The bulk of the handset is now made up from chemically treated glass. Not only giving the phone a stylish and expensive look, the glass is also reported to be several times tougher than the plastic found on previous models thanks to the treatment it undergoes in its production. The phone uses two sheets of this glass, one on both the front and the back of the handset, meaning that there is now also a marked difference between black and white variants of the phone, whereas previously it was just the back cover that varied. The new tiny depth of the unit can be attributed to Apple fitting the antenna externally. This takes the form of a metallic strip that runs between the two sheets of glass, not only aiding reception but adding to the expensive general look.

Apple had a good base to work upon with the 3GS, and have taken the good aspects of this model and added to them with some superb multimedia features such as a 5 mega pixel camera and HD video recording. Add to the equation the new design and some improvement in functionality and you have the iPhone 4, the phone to have this summer.
