subject: Essential Oils: The Natural Treatment For Acne [print this page]

If you are suffering from acne you can be feeling a lot of different emotions. You might be annoyed, or you might be embarrassed. Whatever your emotions, essential oils can help.

Essential oils work as a great treatment for acne. They work effectively and have less side effects than other acne ointments. Lets look at a few natural acne treatment choices.

Bergamot - Bergamot has wonderful anti-bacterial properties. It treats skin breakouts very effectively. Bergamot should not be applied directly on the skin, however, with out being diluted first because it can cause skin to be sensitive to the sun.

Clove - Clove has strong anti-inflammatory properties, and very strong anti-fungal properties. Because it is a very strong anti-fungal it also should not be applied directly to the skin unless it is very diluted. It has worked to treat very bad cases of acne before, but should only be applied in small amounts.

Lavender - This oil, on the other hand, does not need a carrier oil. It can be applied directly on the acne. It works great with killing off acne bacteria, and can reduce the inflammation on the skin that acne causes.

Geranium - Geranium works well with treating acne. It works really well with acne because it balances out the state of the skin. So, if you have oily skin that is causing the acne, geranium changes the oil from being oily to being more normal, which means less acne.

Tea Tree - Tea tree oil is very effective because it has anti-bacterial properties and is a very versatile oil. Tea tree fights acne, especially when added with other essential oils. Tea tree helps with acne irritations and inflammation.

A lot of these essential oils need a carrier or base oil to go with it. If you have greasy skin, almond, apricot, or grape seed work best. Normal skin does well with sesame, calendula, or jojoba. And dry skin works great with olive, avocado, or wheat germ.
