Filed Under: You ARE Often Just a Number (We all are!)
When it comes to borrowing money....we are all used to the notion that we are just a number. What your credit score spits back is much more important than the sort of job you have, the kind of clothes you wear or even how persuasive you may be about WHY you need (and will pay back) the money. But there are all sorts of other scenarios where your credit score is also very important...and often overlooked by most:
Job applications
Renting an apartment or housing
Getting services to a home or apartment on credit (even utilities in some states)
Getting insurance
... And the list goes on.
The truth is that a bad credit score can often be FAR more damaging than a bad cholesterol score..:-) For most of us, we can more quickly "fix" just about anything that may be wrong in our lives FASTER than a credit related problem. Most credit score issues stay on your credit report for 7 years.......and while they diminish in importance over time, bad credit can literally ROB you of the best years of your life.....leaving you paying MORE for less and watching other people get ahead while you lag behind.
The good news is...
Bad credit can be fixed. It can be healed, improved and removed. The key is access, information and understanding. And the FIRST step is you need to KNOW what is on your report and what your score SAYS about you before you do anything. Most people...sadly have NO idea what a credit report even looks like...and then are super surprised when they keep getting rejected for credit! (don't let this happen to you....knowledge is POWER and you have a right to see your report)
