subject: The Joy Of Helping Others [print this page]

Volunteering in your local community is an empowering way help other people and and make you feel good about yourself. My outlook on life improved dramatically as a direct result of donating my time at our local food bank. The work itself is very easy, I've met many beautiful families and have experienced a profound sense of satisfaction from the small service I give. I feel wonderful, as I'm helping to create a better world by offering my time to those less fortunate than myself. Many people are going through hard times right now and it takes a lot of courage to ask for help. It's only by the grace of a loving creator, that I've been able to provide for my family.

Volunteering teaches me to appreciate the many wonderful blessings in my life. I enjoy meeting the incredible families that come into the Food Bank looking for a little food to get them through another day. I believe that volunteering in this way is the least that I can do, and the reward that I receive far out ways the inconvenience in my schedule. In fact, I feel a little guilty by the fact that I get so much joy out of volunteering. It removes my thoughts from the many problems that normally bother me, and allows me to look at the bigger picture. I'm so grateful when I come home from volunteering to see my daughter playing happily in our home, knowing that we'll have a healthy meal together.
