subject: Discover 4 Simple Ways To Be Happy [print this page]

Feeling a little down in the dumps? Use the following tips to help you stay more cheerful and energised.

Tip One: Enjoy The Outdoors

During the summer when the days are warm and long we do not need an excuse to stay out and enjoy the outdoors. However, when the winter approaches, the temperature drops and the days close in it is easier to stay indoors and keep warm. Locking yourself away will do nothing for your moods and energy levels. Research has shown that a lack of light can affect many peoples moods. In severe cases people suffer from a disorder called Seasonal Affective Disorder or better known as SAD for short. People who suffer from this disorder feel considerably better when exposed to daylight. If you find yourself locked away indoors then try and breakout for at least 30 minutes a day. You can take the dog for a walk in the park or a stroll beside the sea with the kids.

Tip two: Making Friends

A recent medical study revealed that making friends and seeing them regularly helps to improve your moods as well as helping you to live a longer life. Making friends also helps to boost our inner confidence and raise our self esteem. Sitting in the house makes it very difficult to make friends and connect with people. The key is to have a positive mindset and get out there. You could sign on to some activity or sport where lots of people will be involved. You could organise a dinner with your friends and ask them to bring someone along that you have never met before.

Tip Three: Having Fun

During the colder months is a good opportunity to sign up with a dance club. It does not matter if you are a terrible dancer as many clubs teach beginners. But that is not really the point. By signing up you will be meeting new people and keeping fit at the same time. This will do wonders for your emotions, energy levels and social life.

Tip Four: Relaxation

If your days are filled with lots of chores that include plenty of housework and looking after the kids you probably do not have any time for yourself. This way you will quickly burn out. Make a point of setting a certain time of the day when you can relax with no one to disturb you. Use this time wisely either with your favourite book, exercise or relaxing in nice hot bath.
