subject: Why Kids Should Learn To Recycle [print this page]

Teaching your child how to recycle is an important skill for them to have. It is also good for them to know why it's important. Just like your kids clothes needs to be put away and looked after by your child, they should also learn about looking after not only their own things, but the world around them. Here a few reasons why teaching your child to recycle is so important:

Teach your kids why recycling is important

In this day and age we are becoming increasingly more aware about the impact we are having on our environment. Now more than ever we are all needing to take steps to make sure we look after our planet. By teaching children at a young age to look after the environment, by doing simple things like putting their rubbish in the bin, sorting the rubbish at home into recyclable and non-recyclable, children learn the importance of keeping the earth clean and picking up after themselves.

They can help around the home by assisting with the recycling

By giving your child a job to do with the recycling such as putting the recycling in the correct bin or carrying the green bags when you go grocery shopping, you are giving them something they are responsible for and a job they can be proud to do. Not only are they helping the planet but they are helping you with chores around the house.

It is important for kids to learn about the impact of waste on the environment and animals and aquatic life as part of their education of the world around them.

It is a useful skill to have and something for them to get into the habit of early

As children get older, recycling is something they will need to be aware of. Like most things, if possible it is good to get into the habit of as early as possible. That way as they get older, recycling will be second nature and no considered extra work or a hassle.

It is something fun you can do together

When teaching your child about recycling you can make it a fun activity for you to do together. Recycling also includes things like making good use of discarded items so instead of simply putting that old plastic bottle in the recycle bin, why not make a bird feeder or fill it with seeds and create an instrument. You can also use old boxes as canvas to paint on or make dioramas with. The creative activities are endless and your child will enjoy them.

Your child can feel good about helping the planet

By letting your child know about the benefits of recycling for the planet and wildlife, your child can feel like her/she is really doing something good. This is a great thing for kids to experience.

Putting away childrens clothes and toys is a good responsibility for young children to have. It's great to teach kids to be responsible for their things. Teaching kids to recycle is just as important to make sure they grow up knowing the importance of looking after the world around them.
