One of the largest demographic of MySpace users are teenagers and it's not so shocking that teens have been addicted to it. If you're a parent it's not really an issue if your teen is addicted to MySpace as long as that addiction doesn't cause him or her any trouble. But what if it does? There have been reports involving online predators creating their own mySpace login account and freely interacting with teens. Would you want that to be your kid? To protect them here are steps to help you block MySpace:

Block MySpace Using Your Hosts File

1. Click the "Start" button to access your computer's "Start" menu. Then click "Run".

2. On the "Run" prompt box cut and paste the words below and click "OK". notepad percentsystemroot percentsystem32driversetchosts

3. A notepad document will appear and on it find the last line of text then type "0.0.0.0" on a new line. Click tab and type "myspace.com" on the same line.

4. On the navigation bar, click "File" and choose "Save" from the drop-down box. Restart your computer to apply the changes you've made.

5. To verify the changes you've made, visit the myspace login page if you have successfully blocked it on your computer.

Block MySpace on Internet Explorer

1. In your browser window click "Tools" and select "Internet Options" on the drop-down box.

2. On the "Internet Options" window, click the "Privacy" tab. After that, click the "Sites" button and in the "Address of web site" field, type "www.myspace.com". Click then the "Block" button.

3. To verify that the site is blocked, open your internet Explorer browser and try to get into myspace login page. If you can't get through you have successfully blocked MySpace.

It may seem harsh not letting your teens accessing myspace or any other social networking sites, but if it means protecting your kids' welfare then do it. Give them the reasons why you're doing this for them to understand. If they still insist to continue accessing their accounts, at least give them the implications or the possible problems they may encounter. These would make them more careful and responsible on their online activities.
